When the 'Right Time' Becomes Crisis Point
This week I had my first session with a new client, an engineer.
She'd been reading my posts for years.
Thought she'd invest in coaching when the time was right.
Suddenly, the "right time" was now.
It arrived because her company put her at risk of redundancy.
After 25 years of service!
Twenty-five years building their success as Engineering lead for an advanced medical diagnostic company.
Her mistake?
Relying on a boss who didn't quite understand what she did.
Expecting him to sell her value to the organization.
Obviously, when they were looking to make cuts he couldn't advocate effectively for her work.
Not easy for him (or anyone!) if he didn't know anything other than 'it always seems to get done!'
Guess whose job is not at risk?
In our first session, we explored what she'd love to change if she did lose her job.
We strategized how to negotiate for what the company still needs and what would excite her.
I even connected her with an employment lawyer.
She wrote after our session to me saying she felt so much more in control, calmer, even excited by what was possible!
A huge departure from the dread she'd brought.
She joked with me that coaching was something she should have done years before!
She realised it might have helped her avoid being in this situation :)
